Hansel and Gretel

Once upon a time a very poor woodcutter lived in a tiny cottage in the forest with his two children, Hansel and Gretel. His second wife was cruel.

"There is not enough food in the house for us. There are too many people in this house, the food is enough only for 2 people.” she said. And she kept on trying to persuade her husband to leave his children in the forest.

            "Take them away from home, so far that they can never find their way back! Maybe someone will find them and give them a home” said the step mother. Woodcutter didn't know what to do except doing what her wife said. The next morning, he took Hansel and Gretel to the forest and left them there.

             When dawn broke, Hansel and Gretel started to wander about the forest, seeking a way home, but they failed. They were lost. They walked, till suddenly they came at a strange cottage in the middle of a forest.

  "This is chocolate!" Said Hansel. "this is delicious" said Gretel, with her mouth full of chocolate.

            "okay We stay here” Said Hansel happily. They were about to enter the cottage when suddenly the door opened and an old woman appeared. "Well, well Come in! Come in, don’t be afraid" said the old woman.”I still have some other food in that room, take it yourself” said the old woman. Well, the room with a lot of food was a trap for Hansel and Gretel. This old woman is a wicked witch. She wanted Hansel and Gretel to be her meal.  

            "You're nothing but skin and bones!" said the witch, locking Hansel into a cage. I shall fatten you up and eat you!" So, everyday that cruel witch gave Hansel and Gretel delicious food.

One day, when she thought Hansel and Gretel were fat enough to be eaten, she said: “show your hands. I wanna know how big you are now.”

            Gretel was scared, “brother, I don’t wanna die.” She cried.

But Hansel was a smart boy. He tricked that blind wicked witch. He gave her the chicken bones.

“hmm..you are still thin. You should eat more.” Said the witch.. Finally the old witch felt tired waiting for them growing up. At that day she wanted to cook Hansel.

   "Light the oven, Gretel,We're going cook your brother! see if the oven is hot enough." She said.

In their fear, Hansel and Gretel got an idea to escape from the witch. Gretel said "I don’t know it is hot enough or not." Angrily, the witch screamed at the little girl: "Useless child! All right, I'll see for myself." But when the witch bent down to look inside the oven and checked the heat, Gretel gave her a strong push into the oven and slammed the oven door shut. The witch was locked in the oven.

"The witch is now burnt," said Hansel, "so lets take all the treasure." They filled a large basket with food and jewelry and set off into the forest to search for the way home.

When they were on the run, they saw an old man in the forest. They stopped and had a look. To their surprise....”Father! Father...is it you?”

That old man was in fact their father.

“Oh...i am sorry, Kids. I was really bad sent you in the forest. I am here to look for you. I have left your step mother”

“That’s okay, father.” Said Hansel,” now we have treasure. We can build our house here and live happily.”

Since that day, Hansel Gretel and the father built a house near the forest and live happily ever after.
